Will you be able to help me?
Headstrong offers counselling for mild to moderate mental health difficulties. All counsellors are trainees. If the assessment determines you may need a fully qualified therapist, we will refer you appropriately.

How do I get support?
The first step to receiving support with Headstrong is to book an initial assessment.

How do I book an assessment?
Please click on our ‘Get Help’ tab on the top left- hand side of the website’s home page. You will be able to pick a time from the available slots and pay online.


How long is the assessment?
The initial assessment lasts for 50 minutes.

Do I need a GP referral?
The simple answer is no. You are free to self-refer.


How much do sessions cost?

Assessments are charged at £20.
Counselling sessions range from £15- £25. Couples counselling is priced at £30.
£15- For individuals in receipt of financial support.
£20 part-time employed (20-30 hours p/w)
£25-full time employed (31 hours and over p/w)
If the fee is too high, please raise this at the assessment and we will do our best to accommodate.


How do I pay for my sessions?
At Headstrong, we encourage a cashless payment system at all our sites and ask you to pay by card. If you forget your card, we can send you a payment link via email after your session.
If you require a receipt, please request this when making payment and the receptionist/counsellor will arrange this.


What happens after the assessment?
You will be contacted by the Headstrong team within 1-3 days with information about your counselling slot.
All counsellors are trainee counsellors. If the assessment determines you may need a fully qualified therapist, we will refer you appropriately.


How long are the sessions?
Once you have agreed to sessions with Headstrong, you will be asked to commit to weekly 50-minute sessions.


Can I pick my location?

At the assessment stage, you will be asked which location is easier to get to, and we will do our best to accommodate depending on availability.

How many sessions do I need to complete?
You can discuss with your counsellor how many sessions you would like or you can keep it open-ended.  

What if I miss a session?
We know that sometimes it is difficult to get to a session and things come up last minute. If this is the case, we ask that you email your counsellor or enquiries as soon as possible to let them know you will be missing your session.

Headstrong does operate on a 7-day cancellation policy. If you are unable to let us know within seven days, you may be charged for your session. If you do not attend two consecutive sessions, and you haven’t let us know, we will release your space.

Can I pick my counsellor?
At the assessment, we will ask you what kind of person you would like to have as a counsellor. We will endeavour to pair you with a counsellor who is best suited to your needs. We are pleased to offer a diverse mix of counsellors, offering varying levels and areas of expertise.


What is Headstrong’s cancellation policy?

To allow everyone an equal chance of accessing support, we kindly request you let us know of your absence at least 7 days in advance.
If we do not hear from you via email within seven days prior to your absence, you will be sent a payment link to pay for the missed session. If this applies to two or more sessions, we will liaise with you to explore your options going forward.


How do I get in touch with Headstrong?
Headstrong does not have access to a phone system at any of the sites and all communication occurs via email.

What Headstrong’s confidentiality agreement?
Counselling often involves the disclosure of sensitive and personal information, so confidentiality is paramount. In order to protect your right to privacy, the things you disclose to your counsellor will remain confidential.

All counsellors are bound by their professional codes of conduct as defined by their accrediting organisation, which includes the responsibility to manage your information confidentially and in line with GDPR.  All counsellors are in supervision with senior members of the clinical team at Headstrong, but all Headstrong supervisors are bound by the same rules of confidentiality.

There are situations in which your therapist can break confidentiality:

1) Where you give consent for confidentiality to be broken and information to be shared. 

2) Where the counsellor is compelled by a court of law. 

3) Where the information is of such gravity that confidentiality cannot be maintained. This includes instances in which the counsellor considers the client or others to be in imminent danger. 

Your counsellor will always attempt to speak to you before breaking confidentiality.
